Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement to the media on the evening of July 31, 2024, regarding the recent strikes on Beirut and Hodeida. He did not mention the killing of Hamas Politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, but warned Israelis that “difficult days lie ahead.”

Highlights of his speech:

“Since the beginning of the war, I have made it clear that we are fighting against the Iranian axis of evil. A war for existence against the noose of evil that Iran seeks to tighten around our necks,” the prime minister said.

“In my testimony to the US Congress, I mentioned three parts of this axis – Hamas, the Houthis and Hezbollah. In recent days, we have dealt powerful blows to each of them. Three weeks ago – to Mohammed Deif, two weeks ago – to the Houthis, and yesterday – to the chief of staff of Hezbollah,” he continued.

Netanyahu expressed deep gratitude to the IDF and Shin Bet for their precise actions on three different fronts.

He particularly focused on yesterday's attack on Beirut: “During yesterday's attack, we killed Nasrallah's deputy, Fuad Shukr, who was responsible for the massacre in Majdal Shams and the killing of many civilians. The brutal attacks on the people of the north continued for 9 months of the war.”

“Shukr was involved in the murder of 241 American soldiers and 58 French soldiers. He was the main link between Hezbollah and Iran,” Netanyahu added.

During a visit to Majdal Shams, the prime minister “saw the depth of grief of the families whose lives had been destroyed.”

“We are brothers, we have a lifelong agreement. We will not remain silent. We will settle scores with everyone who has harmed us,” he emphasized.

Netanyahu also mentioned Hezbollah's possible response to the Beirut attack:

“We are facing difficult days. Since the attack on Beirut, threats have come from all sides. We will cope with each of them. Israel will make us pay a very high price for any attack on us on any front.”

The prime minister said he planned to continue the war because it was bringing Israel closer to a deal to release the abductees. “Everyone around me is saying to stop the war because we have exhausted everything that could be achieved. But I will not give in to these voices. If we had given in, we would not have eliminated senior Hamas leaders and created the conditions for a deal to return the abductees.”
