In an interview for Israeli Ynet publications he described how the war completely changed the daily lives of Kiev residents.

“Alarms and power outages have become part of our reality. People have become accustomed to danger, even though an Iranian drone was shot down near my house. The fragments ended up in the children's clinic where I took my son,” Dox shares.

The changes affected even small household details. For example, as he says, “Moscow” sausage became “Ukrainian”, and the Leo Tolstoy metro station was renamed “Station of Ukrainian Heroes”.

What is behind the book's success?

The book “Ukrainian Report in Hebrew” is not only a guide for tourists, but also a collection of stories reflecting the cultural, historical and political aspects of Ukraine.

At the end of the event, Dox was accepted as a member of the Ukrainian Union of Journalists.

Main topics of the book:

  • History of Ukraine: from the Maidan of 2013 to the war of 2022.
  • Cultural characteristics: statues, monuments and even banknotes with inscriptions in Yiddish.
  • Modern challenges: war, diplomacy and relations with Israel.

Israeli Ambassador Michael Brodsky noted:

“This is a very important book that helps Israelis better understand Ukraine. Eduard does a unique job, talking about Ukraine in Hebrew.”

Israel and Ukraine: a journalist's view

Edward Dox not only writes about the war, but also emphasizes the importance of mutual understanding between the two peoples. At the book presentation, he spoke about how the Israelis support Ukraine, and that both countries have a common goal – to fight terrorism.

However, Dox also noted that real support depends on resources. When he asked the Minister of Defense of Ukraine for an interview (Reznikov – ed.), he joked:

“Give us air defense systems and I will give you an interview.”

Realities of war: victims and prisoners

The journalist said that in Ukraine “it is strictly prohibited to publish data on the number of dead or prisoners.”

“I asked at the conference how many Ukrainian soldiers are in captivity. They told me that this is prohibited. According to unofficial data, the number of prisoners could reach more than 100 thousand,” Dox shared.

By comparison, in Israel every program begins with a mention of hostages.

Tourism: will Israelis return to Ukraine?

Despite the war, Israelis continue to be interested in Ukraine. Many are ready to travel long distances to see Kyiv again.

“As soon as flights resume, I am sure that tourists from Israel will return. They miss this city,” says Dox.
