The US Department of Defense said that it is closely monitoring Russia's cooperation with Iran, North Korea and China.
This was stated by Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder, commenting on the presence of delegations from the aforementioned countries at the Army-2024 arms exhibition held in the Moscow region.
He said the Pentagon is concerned that Russia is trying to buy weapons and ammunition from these countries to support its war against Ukraine.
“So that's something we'll continue to monitor closely,” he added.
Earlier, the White House stated that military cooperation between Russia and the DPRK is dangerous both for Ukraine and for the countries of the Indo-Pacific region.
After the NATO summit in Washington in July, the final declaration called China a “decisive factor” in Russia’s war against Ukraine. China’s mission to the EU said such claims were slanderous, and called on the alliance to stay away from Asia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that China confirmed to Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba that it would not supply weapons to Russia. They also support Ukraine's territorial integrity. The South Korean Defense Ministry reported on July 24 that the DPRK had transferred more than 5 million artillery shells and dozens of short-range ballistic missiles to Russia for use in the war against Ukraine.
On August 5, The New York Times reported, through Iranian officials, that Iran had asked Russia for new air defense systems in preparation for a possible war with Israel. On August 9, Reuters reported that Iran could soon supply Russia with hundreds of Fath-360 short-range ballistic missiles.
Russia’s cooperation with Iran poses a direct threat to Israel. Iran has requested new air defense systems from Russia, indicating that it is preparing for a possible war with Israel. These actions pose significant risks to Israeli security, given that Iran is Israel’s main regional adversary and actively supports terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah. Strong Russian influence and support for Iran could destabilize the Middle East, making Israel more vulnerable to military attacks and terrorist acts.
Russia-North Korea cooperation also has a negative impact on global security, as it increases the possibility of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and missile technology, which could trigger an arms race in the region, where Israel seeks to maintain its superiority in the defense sphere.
This situation also highlights the importance for Ukraine and Israel to coordinate efforts and work closely with international allies to counter common threats posed by Russia's cooperation with regimes that pose a threat to the world order.
