Russian diplomacy surprises again by accusing Israel of “supporting American aggression.”
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova expressed “suspicion” that Israel “supports the US policy of invasion in the Middle East.”
In his Telegram channel On July 29, 2024, she stated:
“By comparing Turkish President Erdogan to Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein (1979-2003), Israeli authorities may support the US policy of intervention in the Middle East.”
“What happened in Iraq due to the fault of the United States has become synonymous with the absolute evil of American foreign policy, its criminal nature and destructive direction.
Do these words of the Israeli minister not mean approval of such international activities?
Earlier, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said Erdogan could repeat the fate of Hussein, who was executed in 2006, in response to the Turkish leader's threats of a possible invasion of Israel.
Zakharova recalled the “false pretext” under which the US and its allies invaded Iraq, and stressed that “the invasion led to massive civilian deaths and the creation of ISIS with the participation of Western countries.”
“As far as I remember, “what happened in Iraq” was an attack by the US, Britain and other NATO countries, as well as many of those who joined them, on a sovereign state under false pretenses. And before that, the American government stubbornly lied and propagated its lies about Iraq allegedly having weapons of mass destruction. Then came the illegal occupation of Iraq by Westerners, the criminal murder of the legitimate leader of a sovereign state, a chain of insane executions and reprisals against officials and civilians, and many years of mockery of Iraqi statehood. No one even counted how many civilians died – they say hundreds of thousands and even a million. The Iraqi military, expelled from their country, went underground and, not without Western participation, turned into ISIS.”
Russian Foreign Ministry's Pearls about Israel
The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly made controversial statements about Israel. For example, in 2018, Zakharova accused Israel of “destructive policies” in the Middle East. In 2019, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Israeli airstrikes in Syria “create a security threat to the region.” These statements highlight the eccentricity and “ambiguity” of Russian diplomacy.
The Hezbollah, Iran and Russia Terrorist Connection
Such statements from the Russian Foreign Ministry undermine international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, especially given Russia's support for regimes such as Iran and Syria, which are linked to terrorist groups such as Hezbollah.
