On April 14, 2014, the Dnepr-1 special purpose patrol police battalion was created within the structure of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The special unit was formed on the basis of the previously created National Defense Regiment of the Dnipropetrovsk Region from male volunteers aged 18 to 45. The main selection criteria were age, physical fitness and “pro-Ukrainian ideology.”

In connection with the circumstances of the death of Oleksandr Muzichko, the leadership of the Right Sector refused to cooperate with the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the issue of forming and arming the Dnipro-2 battalion. In turn, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine refused to register the Dnipro-2 battalion and others with the Right Sector. Later, in July, the Right Sector created the paramilitary Volunteer Ukrainian Corps, which was equipped with captured weapons in the ATO zone in eastern Ukraine.
In April 2023, the regiment defended Bakhmut.
On August 25, 2023, the regiment was part of the United Assault Brigade “Lyut”, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced a recruitment of candidates for the “Dnepr-1” regiment.
On January 19, 2024, it became known that “Dnepr-1” became a fire support regiment as part of the United Assault Brigade of the National Police “Lyut”.
On May 11, 2024, the Lyut Brigade reported that Dnepr-1 had been reformed into a fire support regiment. As of May 2024, the regiment is armed with self-propelled artillery units and carries out combat missions in the Donetsk region.

Fight against separatism
