The special representative of the US president, Keith Kellogg, spoke about Putin’s strategy in an interview with The Telegraph on September 19, 2025. In his opinion, Putin, remaining a KGB man, is unable to understand Western thinking.
Putin’s Worldview and Manipulations
Kellogg noted that despite public statements about not knowing English, Putin has been caught lying more than once.
“He is an expert in manipulation,” Kellogg added, emphasizing the characteristic traits of the Russian leader.
Aggression Towards NATO
Trump’s representative stressed that if Moscow wins in Ukraine, the next step will be an attack on a NATO country.
Putin seeks to restore the Russian Empire, and his actions resemble events leading up to World War II.
“In 1938, Hitler assured that he only needed the Sudetenland, and then escalation would occur. The same thing is happening now with Ukraine,” Kellogg said, adding that the time for reaction is limited.
Provocations and Threats
Kellogg also expressed concern about recent incidents with Russian drones crossing the Polish border. In his opinion, this was not an accident but a targeted provocation intended to test the West’s reaction. He believes that Putin’s threats regarding nuclear weapons require a vigorous response, not ignorance.
“Decisive action is what is needed in such situations,” Kellogg emphasized.
Potential Consequences of the Conflict
Earlier, Kellogg also mentioned that if China’s support ceases, the war in Ukraine could end quickly. According to him, the power of the Russian army should not be underestimated, but it is becoming increasingly clear that “our side can put up a worthy resistance.”
Strategic Stakes
There is an opinion that the current political situation in Ukraine significantly depends on external factors, particularly China’s position. Opportunities for a quick end to the conflict will benefit both Ukraine and all of Europe. Kellogg is confident that an adequate response to Russian actions is an urgent necessity.
Thus, not only the future of the conflict itself is considered, but also the importance of united Western actions in the face of global threats on the horizon. Financial and military support for Ukraine is essentially the key factor in achieving stability in the region at the moment.
Putin’s actions and their consequences remain under close scrutiny, as ignoring threats, according to Kellogg, could lead to serious problems on the international stage.
