Ukraine expressed “deep concern” about the situation in the Lebanese Republic against the backdrop of Israel’s recent decision to launch a limited ground operation. In the comments Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine October 1, 2024, regarding the escalation of the conflict, Ukraine “strongly condemns rocket attacks on Israeli territory by Hezbollah” and calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent the conflict from escalating into a large-scale regional war.”
In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasizes that “the increase in the number of refugees and internally displaced persons in Lebanon is of particular concern,” which indicates an attentive attitude to the humanitarian situation and the need to support those suffering from the conflict. They also note that it is important to avoid civilian casualties, which is emphasized by the phrase: “It is critical to avoid civilian casualties and to prevent violations of international humanitarian law.” These words emphasize Ukraine's desire to ensure security and protect human rights in military conflicts.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine urges an end to violence: “It is necessary to put an end to violence in the region as soon as possible,” emphasizing that “a peaceful and prosperous Lebanon is the key to the stability of all countries in the Middle East.” This emphasizes that Ukraine strives for stability and peace in the region, which is an important part of its foreign policy. Thus, Ukraine actively promotes dialogue and diplomatic efforts as a means of resolving conflicts.
On the other hand, Russia's position is sharply opposite. IN Statement of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs dated October 1, 2024 it says that “such a step taken by the military-political leadership of Israel” will lead to “a further escalation of violence in the Middle East region.”
The Russian leadership calls on Israel to “immediately cease hostilities and withdraw its troops from Lebanese territory”: “We express solidarity with the leadership and people of friendly Lebanon, which has been subjected to armed aggression.”
However, it is important to note that Russia has never condemned the shelling of civilian Israeli cities in northern Israel by Hezbollah. This duplicitous position by Russia highlights its support for terrorist groups, which raises doubts about its intentions to achieve peace in the region.
This behavior of Russia, which declares its solidarity with Lebanon and condemns the actions of Israel, demonstrates double standards and support for terrorist groups. Against this background, it can be concluded that Ukraine, when faced with aggression and violence, prefers a peaceful approach, expressing support for other countries seeking calm, while Russia actively supports terrorism and aggressive actions against Israel, thereby demonstrating its own aggressive external politics.
It is also important to note that Ukraine, while experiencing the impact of Russian aggression, is using its diplomatic channels to promote peace initiatives. This contrasts with the Russian approach, which often includes supporting armed conflicts and undermining stability in other countries.
Thus, the contrast between the positions of Ukraine and Russia becomes obvious: Ukraine calls for peace and humanitarian assistance, while Russia continues to support and protect terrorist groups, underscoring its own aggressive approach on the international stage.
Thus, rather than advocating for peaceful resolution of conflicts, Russia actively supports and protects terrorist groups such as Hezbollah, which undermines stability in the region. This once again underlines that Ukraine, despite its own problems with aggression, remains committed to the principles of peace and humanity, while Russia, using its political and military weight, creates additional security threats.
