Israeli journalist Zvi Zilber on air at OBOZ-Talk On July 29, 2024, he expressed the opinion that the third world war is already underway and all countries in the world are participating in it in one way or another. Zilber believes that the war in Israel and the war in Ukraine are closely connected, and one of the goals of the escalation in the Middle East was to divert resources from Ukraine.
According to Zilber, the third world war was started by the Russian dictator Putin.
“World War III is already underway. During World War II, people did not know that they were living during World War II. Only later did historians say that the period from September 1, 1939 to September 2, 1945, we will call World War II. World War III is underway. It only remains to determine from what moment to count it – from 2014, or from February 24, 2022, or from 2008, when Putin attacked Georgia,” Zilber noted.
Zilber also emphasized that all countries are participating in the war – somewhere it is in a hybrid form, somewhere in a hot form, and somewhere in the form of terrorist attacks.
“The situation has developed in such a way that all countries today are participating in this war in one way or another, either on the side of the 'axis of evil' or on the side of the United States and its allies, democratic countries. All these wars are connected. There is no doubt that the war here (in Israel) and the war in Ukraine are connected by a very thick umbilical cord,” Zilber said.
He noted that one of the goals of this war was to divert resources from Ukraine so that the United States and the West would have to direct resources to the Middle East, to Israel.
Regarding the statements by Turkish President Recep Erdogan, who threatened to intervene in the situation in Israel, as he did earlier in Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh, Zilber said it was difficult to determine whether he was bluffing.
Journalist Zvi Zilber explained on air that on the eve of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, many experts claimed that Putin had no plans to attack Ukraine, but the Russian dictator launched an invasion anyway. In his opinion, Erdogan could do the same.
“Today we live in a completely new reality, and I will not discount this threat,” Zilber said.
He recalled that Erdogan had made many loud statements, for example, promising to send a huge flotilla to break the blockade of Gaza, but this did not happen. He also imposed sanctions and an embargo on trade with Israel, but trade continues thanks to the decisions of officials.
Israel receives 60% of its oil from Azerbaijan, which goes through Turkey, and Ankara has no economic or political interests in the conflict with Israel.
“But Erdogan is an Islamist, Erdogan is a populist, he needs to pump up his popularity. I don't think this is a real threat,” Zilber believes.
Turkey has no land border with Israel, and it is unclear what an attack would look like. In Libya, Turkey is participating “remotely,” helping the government against Russian interests.
Zilber also noted that Turkey is a NATO country, and although it breaks many rules, he cannot imagine a NATO country attacking a strategic ally.
“However, after February 24, 2022, I no longer rule out anything,” the journalist added. “The most schizophrenic development of events that one can imagine could, unfortunately, become reality. And we will simply have to adapt our psyche to this,” Zvi Zilber concluded.
