Russia has transferred modern electronic warfare systems (EW) “Murmansk-BN” to Iran, X-channel reported on August 4, 2024 BRICS News. These systems could significantly impact Iran's armed confrontation with Israel. Iran has deployed powerful Russian Murmansk-BN electronic warfare systems at strategically important sites.
“Murmansk-BN” is a short-wave coastal electronic warfare system that performs radio reconnaissance, interception of enemy signals and their suppression at ranges of up to 5,000 kilometers across the entire short-wave range. Experts note that these electronic warfare systems can play a significant role in the armed confrontation between Iran and Israel.
Israeli newspaper “Maariv” reports that several Il-76 military transport planes from Russia have landed in Tehran in the past two days. This indicates an increase in Russian arms supplies to Iran and may indicate a strengthening of military ties between the two countries.
Russian news portal Avia specifies that these Il-76s delivered operational tactical missile systems Iskander to Iran – one of the most modern developments in the field of tactical missile weapons.
“These missiles are capable of hitting targets at a range of up to 500 km with high accuracy, which makes them an effective means of striking strategically important enemy targets. Deliveries of such weapons to Iran could significantly change the balance of power in the region. The Iskander complex is capable of not only causing significant damage to military infrastructure, but also exerting psychological pressure on opponents,” the Russian publication writes.
Experts from the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW), which operates under the Pentagon, noted that Russia's deepening partnership with Iran will push the Kremlin to support other Iranian proxies, such as the Houthis, to confront the West.
“Russia's increased willingness to use Iran and its proxies for indirect confrontation with the West will undermine Russia's efforts to present its foreign policy in the Middle East as balanced and could further complicate relations with countries concerned about Russian-Iranian cooperation,” the American analysts said.
