In Zaporozhye (Ukraine), mourning was declared today for those killed as a result of yesterday's attack. At the time of writing, it is known 8 dead and 22 wounded, including a child.
On December 10, 2024, Putin’s Russia committed another war crime: the center of Zaporozhye was destroyed by a ballistic missile. Among the damaged buildings are Jewish Lyceum “ORT-Alef”, a symbol of Jewish culture and education in Ukraine.
The blast wave blew out windows, destroyed the heating system, and damaged the façade and fence. Six employees inside were in shock, and one of them, a pregnant teacher, needs psychological help.
This attack shows the true face of Russian aggression: strikes not on military targets, but on those places where people live, study and are treated.

Disastrous consequences: clinic and residents under rubble
The main epicenter of the attack was a private medical clinic. At the time of the attack, there were patients and doctors in it – about 20 people. Collapsed walls buried people under rubble.
“I was inside, the ceiling collapsed on my head. A colleague was crushed under slabs. We screamed and called for help,” said doctor Anna Zubchenko.
At the time of writing, 8 people were killed and 22 injured, including a child. Rescue work continues. More than 160 specialists and 50 pieces of equipment were involved.
The Russian missile not only destroyed the clinic, but also damaged buildings nearby, including 20 residential buildings. The occupiers cynically struck a densely populated area of the city.
Targeted terror against civilians
Russia continues its criminal war, ignoring the norms of international humanitarian law. Every attack on peaceful cities is not an accident, but a deliberate strategy of intimidation. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky called the attack on Zaporozhye another act of terror:
“The ballistic missile was aimed at civilian targets. We demand more air defense systems from our partners to protect our cities.”
Russian terror has also affected cultural and educational institutions. The ORT-Alef Jewish Lyceum became one of the symbols of the tragedy, uniting the Jewish and Ukrainian communities in the fight against Russian aggression.
Jewish community in Zaporozhye: under attack and in support
The ORT-Alef Lyceum is not only an educational institution, but also an important center of Jewish culture in the region. United Jewish Community of Ukraine reported:
“At the time of the Russian attack on Tuesday, December 10, there were 6 workers in the former Jewish gymnasium, one of them was a pregnant teacher. She was in shock and needs constant psychological support.
There were no children in the building because they are studying online.
The building suffered significant damage. The roof and heating system were pierced by debris, most of the windows were broken by the blast wave, and the perimeter fence was also badly damaged.”

Why the world must react
Every crime of Russia against Ukraine is a challenge to the entire civilized world. The terrorist state continues to ignore the rules of war, deliberately targeting hospitals, schools, residential areas and cultural sites.
