At the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, Putin declared that “wherever the foot of a Russian soldier steps — that’s ours,” threatening Sumy and extending the concept of the “Russian world” to include Israel.

Experts warn: this is a direct copy of Hitler’s rhetoric on Lebensraum and the “protection of compatriots” — Israel must strengthen its cyber and information defense to avoid becoming a target of Kremlin manipulation.

New “buffer zone” or old Lebensraum?

putin mimics Hitler: ‘wherever a Russian soldier steps — that’s ours’. Ukraine vows to take off those feet with drones, and it’s time for Israel to pay attention – NAnews, Israel News, June 21, 2025

On June 20, 2025, in St. Petersburg, vladimir putin announced that Russia “does not rule out” the capture of Sumy and intends to create a “security zone” up to 8–12 km deep.

Wherever the foot of a Russian soldier steps — that’s ours,” said dictator Putin, commenting on Russian military advances in Ukraine.

Putin also once again declared that Russians and Ukrainians are “one people.”

In that sense, all of Ukraine is ours,” he said.

This is not the first such statement, but the phrase “wherever the foot of a Russian soldier steps — that’s ours” strongly recalls Hitler’s 1939 rhetoric: “A German soldier remains wherever he sets foot.” The parallel is clear:

  • Hitler: demanded “living space” (Lebensraum) for Germans.
  • Putin: promotes the “Russian world” and the idea of “one people” with Ukrainians.

In both cases, the aggressor justifies annexing foreign land by claiming a “right” to protect “their own” and expand borders.

Ukraine responds: “One million soldiers — and two million legs”

Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha responded:

“Putin doesn’t care about his own soldiers: he’s already sent about 1,000,000 people into a senseless bloodbath. That’s two million legs — and we’re ready to tear off every next one with a drone.”

According to the Ukrainian General Staff, over 50,000 Russian troops have been concentrated on the Sumy front and have advanced 5–7 km into the region, leaving only 20–25 km to Sumy.

NAnews – Israel News emphasizes: this is not a “security zone,” but a step toward broader invasion.

Five direct parallels between Putin and Hitler

  1. Justifying expansion through “one people”.
    Hitler: Germans in Sudetenland, Danzig, Austria.
    Putin: Russian-speakers in Ukraine, now even “Russian-speaking Israel.”
  2. Creating “buffer zones”.
    Hitler: Polish Corridor, Rhineland demilitarization.
    Putin: “10–12 km along the border.”
  3. Using minority protection as a pretext for war.
    Hitler: Germans in Czechoslovakia.
    Putin: Russian-speakers in Donbas and now Israel.
  4. Disregarding international agreements.
    Hitler: After Munich – invaded Poland.
    Putin: After Istanbul – invaded Sumy.
  5. Manipulating the idea of “peaceful atom”.
    Hitler: Framed invasions as defense.
    Putin: Claims to protect Iran’s “peaceful atom.”

Why Israel? — The most dangerous illusion

At the same forum, Putin said:

.......

Israel today is almost a Russian-speaking country. Many immigrants from the USSR live there — and Moscow takes that into account.”

This mimics Hitler’s justification for the Anschluss of Austria: “Germans live there — therefore it’s ours.” In Israel’s context, such rhetoric is not a compliment but an attempt to link Israel to the ‘Russian world’.

NAnews – Israel News warns: behind these statements may lie intentions to:

  • Influence Israel’s domestic policy through “Russian-speakers”;
  • Sow division using Kremlin propaganda narratives;
  • Justify potential interference under the guise of “protecting compatriots”;
  • Undermine Israel’s alliance with the U.S. and EU.

What should Israel do? Five steps against the Kremlin’s blueprint

  1. Make a public statement: Israel is a sovereign Jewish state, not a Russian-speaking satellite.
  2. Enhance cybersecurity in cooperation with allies.
  3. Support Ukraine — both humanitarian and technologically.
  4. Expose propaganda and block Kremlin information warfare.
  5. Join G7 sanctions on dual-use goods.

Red thread: “A soldier’s foot is not an argument”

In 1938, the world remained silent — and got a world war. In 2025, Putin is openly borrowing from Hitler’s playbook. But today, the free world has experience — and alliances.

If Ukraine strikes at the “feet” of the aggressor, and Israel stands alongside — the Kremlin’s “Lebensraum 2.0” will end faster than it began.
