Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: Russia and Iran bear the main responsibility for the aggravation of the situation in Syria, where 13 years of war have led to a humanitarian catastrophe

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in her commentary on December 2, 2024, she emphasized deep concern about the situation in Syria, which is experiencing a new round of war. This conflict, which has lasted more than 13 years, has claimed the lives of over 500 thousand people, and millions of Syrians have been forced to leave their homes.

“The suffering of Syrians was the result of the criminal rule of the Bashar al-Assad regime, which turned Syria into an arena for other dictatorial regimes – Russian and Iranian,” – says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The scale of destruction and the pain of the Syrian people

Syria faces a massive humanitarian crisis:

• Victims of war: more than half a million dead.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry insists on the need to implement UN Security Council resolutions No. 2254 and No. 2118, which provide for:

• Conducting an inclusive dialogue with the participation of all parties to the conflict.
• Establishment of a long-term truce.

Only through the restoration of the rule of law and respect for human rights is it possible for Syria to return to normal life.
